Ghost Mike was a spiritual manifestation or rather a ghost image of former NIS/NCIS Special Agent Michael Franks who died after being stabbed by Jonas Cobb, the Port-to-Port Serial Killer during the Season 8 episode, Swan Song (episode).

NCIS Season 8Edit

Hours after his physical self had died, Mike appeared as a hallucination to his former protege, Leroy Jethro Gibbs who had been left devastated and completely shell-shocked by Mike's death.

His first appearance was at the beginning of "Swan Song" when he appeared to Gibbs, asking the other man to tell him what happened because Mike himself was lost.

Over the course of the episode, Mike appeared as his real self and also as a ghost image Gibbs had created to help him cope with the tragedy as the two relived the events that led up to Mike's death.

NCIS Season 9Edit

Ghost Mike later reappeared in the episode Life Before His Eyes (episode) where he showed Gibbs all the good that he had accomplished in his life.

NCIS Season 10Edit

In the Season 10 finale episode, Damned If You Do (episode), Ghost Mike returned again, serving as Gibbs's conscience while Gibbs struggled to come to terms with the fact that he had been bending the law to serve his own ends for nearly twenty years.

NCIS Season 12Edit

Two years later, Franks was seen in The Lost Boys (episode) and later, in the Season 12 finale episode, Neverland (episode).

NCIS Season 13Edit

Franks also appeared in the Season 13 premiere episode, Stop the Bleeding (episode).

As a manifestation of Gibbs's subconscious due to his own lingering feelings of guilt and despair over Franks's death, Ghost Mike appears to be a lot more gruffer than the original Mike was with Ghost Mike often expressing disgust over the people that Gibbs meets which is evident when Dr. Cyril Tate appears with Ghost Mike calling Tate "Chuckles the Clown".
