
Gibbs' M40A1 Sniper Rifle is the sniper rifle used by Leroy Jethro Gibbs in his Marine Corps days and Gibbs’ his own M40A1 used by him during his former NIS/NCIS cases/missions. It's was now he keeps it in a case in his own house' basement.

Pre-Series[]
US Marine Corps give M40A1 Sniper Rifle as standard issue rifle to L.J. Gibbs. Later Gibbs purchased his own M40A1 Sniper Rifle for personal matters.
In “Vivo o Muerto”, in flashbacks young Gibbs has use his sniper rifle to kill Pedro Hernandez.
NCIS: Origins[]
In “Enter Sandman” young Gibbs used his sniper rifle to help him investigate and solve Sandman's case.
In “Vivo o Muerto” young Gibbs has use his sniper rifle to overwatch his team on NIS mission. Later, after Lala Dominguez finds out about him killing Hernandez, he buried it in secret place.
In “Cecilia”, Gibbs unburied his the rifle to turn it to MP Investigator Lara Macy due been driven by guilt that he drowns his team down with him, later Macy return it to Franks, saying he drops case against him.

In Hiatus. Part 1, in flashbacks young Gibbs has used his own sniper rifle to kill Pedro Hernandez, man who killed his family (Shannon and Kelly).
It appeared in the NCIS Season 6 episode, Deliverance (episode) where Leroy Jethro Gibbs remembers that he used the M40A1 during a mission of his Marines days to kill a Colombian drug lord.
In the Season 7 premiere episode, Truth or Consequences (episode), Gibbs uses the sniper rifle to fire a single shot that kills terrorist Saleem Ulman.
In one alternate reality seen in the NCIS Season 9 episode, Life Before His Eyes (episode), Gibbs who wielded the same sniper rifle never ended up taking the shot that in the main reality ultimately killed drug lord/criminal Pedro Hernandez and as such, was left grief-stricken. This prompted the Gibbs of that reality to become a drunken reclusive, unable to come to terms with failing to avenge his dead family.
In Scope (episode), Gibbs used the sniper rifle near the end of during an overwatch operation and also features archive footage from Season 7's premiere episode, "Truth or Consequences", when Gibbs uses the rifle during an attack on a terrorist camp in Somali.
In Sturgeon Season (episode) and Head of the Snake (NCIS episode), Gibbs used the his sniper rifle.
In Road to Nowhere (episode), Gibbs is seen in flashbacks using the M40A1 when LeMere taunts Gibbs.
