Gone Fission is the first episode of NCIS: Sydney and also the 1st episode of the entire NCIS: Sydney series.
Synopsis
At an AUKUS ceremony, an American Naval Petty Officer dies under mysterious circumstances, prompting the NCIS Agent Afloats to team up with their counterparts at the Australian Federal Police or AFP to investigate.

- Michelle Mackey and DeShawn Jackson, NCIS agents on the U.S.S. Ronald Regan along with Jim Dempsey, a Sergeant with the Australian Federal Police, Evie Cooper, a Constable with the AFP, Bluebird Gleeson, a Forensic Scientist with the APF and Roy Penrose, a Forensic Pathologist with the AFP are all introduced for the first time.
- After the conclusion of the case, an AFP/NCIS joint task force is subsequently created with the purpose being to investigate criminal and terrorist threats that occur in Australia and the Indo-Pacific and concern the national security interests of the United States and Australia.

- NCIS: Sydney is the third show after NCIS: Hawaii and JAG not to have originally debuted as a backdoor pilot episode in one of the shows in the NCIS franchise that consists of JAG, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Hawaii and NCIS: Sydney.
