NCIS: Origins

One day she was reviewing a JAGMAN investigation about missing gear at Camp Pendleton, which was an excuse for her to start investigation. She gathered Tijuana PD's police reports and noticed that police reports of his murder has full of inconsistencies, stating he was shot at point-blank range, but the witness statements seem doctored, so Macy believed Hernandez was shot by a sniper. The primary suspect was L.J. Gibbs, possibly for the murder his wife Shannon and 8-year-old daughter Kelly Gibbs by Hernandez. A few weeks ago before “Cecilia” she fled to Mexico to contacted Tijuana PD Detective Rogelio Cuevas and asked lot of questions about Flaco Navarro, who was there at June, thinking he might have been a witness.

In “Cecilia”, Macy reaches out to Lala first, hoping to get her to help with investigation due her get Gibbs talk to her cause her JAG contact is telling her she can't do it due Gibbs is NIS Special Agent now. She promised Lala that if Gibbs is innocent, she can drop case, but if he's not, so justice should be served. Later she interrogates him in his apartment, but Gibbs, who was instructed by Dominguez and Franks, denied about killing Hernandez saying that his personal sniper rifle stolen out of his truck in last April and then Gibbs starts questioning her about bullet and body examination. So when conversation gets heat up by Gibbs saying she wants this investigation to be her ticket to law school and JAG, but Macy stated she have reliable source, who said that he shot Hernandez.

Later in night Macy get visited by Gibbs, who driven by guilt that he drown his team down with him, decided turned over his rifle and himself with one condition that his team was to be kept out of it and Lara promised him that. Same night Macy also visited by Lala, who decided steps in after Gibbs' confession to her, to take the rifle back, when Macy pulls a gun on her friend and tells her to put the weapon down. Then Lala tells her she get their regional director Barrett join her to NIS, but Lara stated that about justice, not about her. Then Lala stated she didn't report about Gibbs, because she believe it was justified killing and believes that Macy b did it too. Then she lies to Macy and claims responsibility for the shooting and they planned everything together with Gibbs and she begged not to hurt her either.

Her move convinces Macy to drop the case due she couldn’t get allow Lala get herself thrown in jail away and later she brought the rifle to Franks and tells Franks about phone call and he was too drunk to remember, suggesting he just been making up story. Gibbs had no idea she and Lala protected him until he been told years later.

Interim Years

Macy rose to the rank of Major before she left the military. After leaving the military, she then joined NCIS, undergoing the essential training before she eventually became the Operations Manager of the Office of Special Projects located in Los Angeles.

NCIS Season 6

In May 2009, Macy coordinated a joint operation with the Major Case Response Team in Washington D.C. and the Office of Special Projects in Los Angeles to neutralize a terrorist cell within the United States. This Operation brought her back into contact with Gibbs who was now Special Agent-In-Charge of the Major Case Response Team in the Washington D.C. and as a result of the tensions between them, Gibbs to such an extent that Gibbs was even dismissive of Macy's ability to lead the team and also her skills as an NCIS Special Agent.

It was during this case that Macy confided in Nate Getz about what had happened back in 1992 with Gibbs and Hernandez. A few hours after the case had ended, Nate later indirectly informed Gibbs, as he and McGee were leaving OSP to return to Washington D.C., about what Macy had done for him which affected a more stable and amicable relationship between them, while that G. Callen was the target of an assassination attempt that left him in critical condition.

NCIS: Los Angeles Season 1

As a result of the attempt on Callen's life, Director Leon Vance reassigned her to a Task Force in Marseille, France leaving Henrietta Lange to become the new Operations Manager for OSP.

In Ambush, revealed that according to Hetty, Macy was apparently working out of a “Quonset Hut in Djibouti”.

NCIS Season 7

While stationed in France, Macy investigated the rape of Petty Officer Kaylen Burrows who was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Majestic. The case eventually led her back to Washington D.C., where she was murdered and her body was burned as part of a vendetta against Gibbs, specifically for her part in covering up the details of Hernandez’s death.

Gibbs and his team were summoned to the scene and left devastated when Tim McGee who Gibbs had brought with him to Los Angeles confirmed to them that the remains were those of Macy's.

As such, Gibbs became fixated on solving the crime by any means necessary and with the help of Dacky and Abby later discovered that the knife marks on Macy's neck had come with a knife with the team determining that her killer was Jason Paul Dean, a disgraced former U.S. Army Ranger working for the Reynosa Cartel.

Shortly after her death, the room in her mother's house where Macy kept her old case notes was searched by parties involved with the Reynosa Cartel who were looking for Macy's notes on the Hernandez Case.

It is presumed that after the case, Macy's remains were returned to her mother and she was ultimately laid to rest in a ceremony in her homestade of Maryland.

Trivia

  • It's revealed before NCIS Lara Macey was MP Investigator in the Marine Corps Military Police and she was investigating the murder of Pedro Hernandez, the man that murdered Shannon and Kelly, with Gibbs being her main suspect. However the Military Police do not conduct criminal investigations, especially into felonies like murder, The Marine Corps Criminal Investigative Division (CID) do, USMC's investigative agency, so Macy would have been a Marine Corps CID agent, not an MP. Although Marine CID agents serve as base detectives under the authority of the base's Provost Marshall's Office, meaning their jurisdiction is limited to investigating crimes on the base they are stationed at, assuming it's not a case, NCIS (or NIS in 1991) has jurisdiction over; Hernandez was killed in Mexico, Macy's authority was limited to Camp Pendleton. Additionally a Marine suspected of murder would be one of the types of crimes NIS would have jurisdiction over, that combined with the fact that Hernandez murdered a Marine Sergeant, an NIS agent plus two family members of an active-duty Marine means all investigations involving Hernandez would be done by NIS.
  • Macy also says that she was the lead investigator on a JAGMAN case investigating Gibbs for murdering Pedro Hernandez. Although in real life Marine Corps Military Police don't perform criminal investigations, only NCIS and Marine CID do; with the exception of JAGMAN investigations, though NCIS & USMC CID sometimes assist with JAG investigations. The primary investigators on a JAGMAN investigation are military lawyers from the Navy's JAG office, like Commander Harmon Rabb and Major Sarah MacKenzie from NCIS's parent series JAG.
