Martin Atticus "Marty" Deeks is an NCIS Investigator and also member of the NCIS: Office of Special Projects team. He was previously a Los Angeles Police Department Detective, originally serving as the team's LAPD liaison.

He became the new partner to NCIS Special Agent Kensi Blye after her former partner, Agent Dominic Vail died in the line of duty. After years of working together, Deeks and Kensi developed a romantic relationship and later got married.

Biography

Pre-Series

The son of a man named Gordon John Brandel and Roberta Deeks, Deeks was born on January 8, 1979, in California. His childhood was an unhappy one, as his father was an alcoholic who frequently abused Deeks and Roberta.

One day, Brandel became so drunk that he started wielding a shotgun at Deeks and his mother. In response, an eleven year old Deeks shot Brandel non-fatally with Brandel later ending up in prison, where he served his time and was eventually released. Deeks never maintained contact with his father after he went to prison and after Deeks was shot, Hetty inquires into his father's whereabouts in an attempt to track down his next of kin, only to find that Brandel had died in a car accident in 1998.

During his time in high school, Deeks had his own rock band named "Touching Wood" with Deeks as the lead singer and guitarist. In college he had a punk band called "Contaminated Cherries". They had a song called 'Apple of My Eyesore', which was their greatest hit. The band also had an album, which Roberta gave to Kensi.

While Deeks attended college he spent some time working as an exotic dancer. As revealed at the end of Concours D'Elegance, his stage name was Jack, as in Jack Dawson from the movie Titanic. This took place in 1997, and he even straightened his hair and parted it.

He eventually became a lawyer and served as a public defender for some time before choosing to join the Los Angeles Police Department and working his way up to Detective.

Prior to becoming a liaison between the LAPD and NCIS's OSP, he had a girlfriend named Sylvia Grey. Their breakup was messy and he got a restraining order against her.

In November 2020, as a result of the Los Angeles Police Department going through a reform, Deeks's position as the LAPD liaison to NCIS, a role he had served for over a decade, was subsequently terminated and he was furloughed. Thanks to Henrietta Lange, he attended FLETC to become an official NCIS Special Agent and rejoin the team.

Deeks's new NCIS ID. From the NCIS: Los Angeles Season 12 episode, "A Fait Accompli".

In A Fait Accompli, Deeks received his official badge from Hetty with his new credentials, showing he is now an NCIS Investigator which means that he presumably is an 1810 Investigator who performs investigative and or counterintelligence duties, making him the only member of the OSP team to hold this rank while his colleagues are all Special Agents.
