Born in Winthrop, Iowa, Mackey is the daughter of an unnamed couple with Mackey also having at least two brothers. She had a son when she was 18 years old named Trey, who is currently living with her parents while she’s aboard in Australia.
She joined the Marines and learned to fly helicopters. She was assigned to the Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 169 (HMLA-169). She did multiple tours.
At some point she was stationed at Khost, Afghanistan. While there, an incident where three young soldiers wandered off base, ending up on the wrong side of the border. Despite a direct order to stand down, Mackey refused, using a chopper and enlisting the help of a Corp man and gunner to assist her. They rescued the three soldiers but the chopper itself came under fire on the way back. Low on fuels and the extra bodies, Mackey was forced to bring the chopper in for a hard landing a few miles away from the base with the event leaving the Corp man and gunner dead while the three soldiers she had rescued were sent to the U.S. to face the consequences. Mackey herself was later court-martialed but found not guilty.
After that, Mackey joined NCIS, becoming a Special Agent. In the summer of 2023 she was assigned to the U.S.S. Ronald Regan as the Agent Afloat.
