Nicholas Mallard is the son of Joseph Mallard and his second wife, Lorraine Mallard. He is also the younger half-brother of Dr. Donald Mallard, the former Medical Examiner for the NCIS Major Case Response Team led by NCIS Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs.

Biography[]

Pre-Series[]

Born in Scotland in 1965, Nicholas is the son of Joseph Mallard and his second wife, Lorraine. He has a half-brother, whom he calls 'Donnie', who is about 20 years his senior.

When Nicholas was eight, his mother filed for divorce and took him to Albania. Both his father and brother attempted to get custody of him, but failed. Donald tried to find him for many years, but was eventually told by a relative of his former stepmother that Nicholas and Lorraine had been killed in a car crash in Prague. He stopped searching after that.

Nicholas applied to become a U.S. citizen in 1987.

He has been living in a nursing home outside of Philadelphia for an unknown time with early onset Alzheimer's despite only being in his 50's, but is otherwise healthy. According to the attending nurse, he is happy but has no recollection of his former life, and hasn't for years.

NCIS Season 13[]

A few weeks prior to Spinning Wheel he managed to get out and take a bus to the city, where he was later found at a post office.

He attempted to send a letter to his brother, who he believed lived at the same address he had been living at in Scotland 40 years ago, but due to using a non-valid stamp it was rejected. However, it turned out that the stamp was quite valuable, particularly if paired with a certain other stamp. As the name 'Donald Mallard' was on the envelope, Dr. Mallard was kidnapped in an attempt to get to the other stamp. A Marine tried to help Dr. Mallard and was killed, thus alerting NCIS to the case.

Dr. Mallard and the NCIS Major Case squad found Nicholas. ‘Donnie’ visited Nicholas, to the younger man’s great joy.

Personality[]

As a child, Nicholas Mallard was a sweet boy with a personality his brother described with the nickname “cheeky monkey”. As an adult living with Alzheimer’s, he’s described by a nurse as “happy”. His personality after leaving England and before moving in to the nursing home is unknown.
