Out of the Frying Pan is the eighteenth episode in NCIS Season 8 and the 180th episode of the entire NCIS series.

Synopsis

The NCIS team are tasked with investigating the murder behind a retired Marine Colonel with the prime suspect being the victim's teenage son but Gibbs soon finds himself questioning Vance's motives for giving the team the case.

Prologue

In a small area of D.C., as an automatic cleaning machine goes by, two members of the Parking Enforcement follow in a little car.

As they get out of the car, Riggs tells his partner, Bixby that they can tell a lot about a person by their car.

"So you've said. Many times", Bixby remarks.

Riggs states that the owners have one thing in common.

"You've ruined their day", Bixby says.

Riggs tells Bixby that they've all got an excuse and take this guy with Bixby protesting that the guy probably lives here and that he forgot to move his car before suggesting that they should knock on his door.

"And here I thought you had what it takes to do the job", Riggs remarks.

"And here I thought you had a soul", Bixby retorts.

Riggs states that he lost it a long time ago, hazard of the job and that otherwise, he'd start talking the insults personally.

As this happens, Bixby heads for the door.

"Meter maid. Rent-a-cop. Scooter pig", Riggs mutters.

Meanwhile, Bixby rings the doorbell but there's no response.

Riggs remarks that Bixby can't sympathize with those people, that they broke the law and for that, they must pay. He then places an envelope containing a fine onto the window of the car.

Bixby then looks in and sees the owner of the house lying dead on the floor.

He then mutters "Oh my God" and tells Riggs to call the police.

"I am the police", Riggs states.

"The real police!", Bixby snaps.

It then cuts to the inside of the house where the man is still there on the floor, dead with the murder weapon apparently an axe that has fresh blood on it.
