List of Appearances

Rachel Barnes is a young girl who is later revealed to be the one responsible for killing her psychiatrist mother, Dr. Valerie Barnes.

The daughter of Dr. Valerie Barnes and Navy SEAL Ryan Barnes, Rachel presumably began displaying signs of being a sociopath at a young age, greatly scaring her mother who later grew frightened of her young daughter. Dr. Barnes was able to recognize the signs as she had worked with institutionalized sociopaths, such as George Burton. Valerie wished to get her daughter treatment at a medical facility in Montana.

Rachel, who was in denial, later grew to resent her mother for this and began injuring herself to such an extent that she was hospitalized so that her father would stay longer. However, her sociopathic mind would eventually conclude that as long as her mother was alive, the cycle wouldn't change and she could end up institutionalized.

NCIS Season 12

Prior to Parental Guidance Suggested (episode), Rachel attended a sleepover with Benjamin Curtis, the son of Nathan Curtis.

At some point, she crept to her house during that night and retrieved a gun, which Nathan had entrusted to Dr. Barnes and was kept in Ryan's safe, which she then used to shoot her mother in the back, the impact killing Dr. Barnes instantly. She then quickly buried it in the soil underneath her fort, although it wasn't as deep as she would have liked.

At first glance, Rachel appeared to be just like any other child her age: sweet and innocent but in fact, Rachel was a cold, emotionless, unfeeling sociopath who disliked her mother, preferring her father to stay with her.

Rachel often went to great lengths to get her father's attention by even going as far as to injure herself which saw her being hospitalized as well.

She displayed little to no remorse for her actions although she recognized that premeditated murder was wrong. She attempted to hide the evidence of her involvement but did not deny it when presented with the truth. Rachel also seemed to be in great denial about the fact that she was a sociopath, even insisting that she was fine.

Rachel is a young girl presumably aged ten or eleven with brown eyes and long blonde curly hair, which was kept into two separate pigtails that hung down covering both her ears.

Despite being a child, Rachel showed great skill with firearms as she was able to use a gun to accurately shoot her mother in the back, the shot itself resulting in Valerie's own death.

  • To date, Rachel Barnes is the youngest murderer ever to have appeared on the main NCIS series and quite possibly the NCIS franchise itself which is composed of JAG, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans.
