Scope is the 18th episode of NCIS Season 13 and also the 300th episode of the entire NCIS series.

Synopsis

When an American couple are shot dead while exploring an area in Iraq, the NCIS team re-examine an ambush on a group of Special Ops that occurred in the same area six months prior to the attack. During the main investigation, Gibbs discovers that he needs the account of the solo survivor of the attack who is being treated for PTSD at the Walter Reed Memorial Center with Gibbs attempting to connect with the Marine with the team soon discovering a rogue sniper is responsible, forcing Gibbs to go back to his roots as a sniper when new evidence emerges, suggesting that the killer is about to strike again...

  • Gibbs later manages to sleep in the room he once shared with his murdered first wife, Shannon for the first time in nearly twenty years due to Gibbs having avoided the room as it had been "their" room.

Trivia

  • This episode also features an appearance from the MusiCorps Wounded Warrior Band which is composed of injured Marines who have gone to become musicians with the music helping them recover from the effects of war.
  • Taye Diggs is credited as a Special Guest Star.
  • The song Diggs sings and that MusciCorps Wounded Warrior Band play is a cover version of "Hallelujah", a song originally performed by Canadian musician Leonard Cohen. American musician Jeff Buckley later performed his own version of the song and it later became a success although Buckley drowned on May 29, 1997 at the age of 30 while out swimming. Since then, Buckley's version of "Hallelujah" which was released posthumously has gained huge recognition and popularity.
  • There were flashback clips from Truth or Consequences (episode) and Past, Present, and Future (episode).
  • A rerun of this episode aired on November 1, 2016 in place of the planned episode Home of the Brave (episode) due to the presidential elections.
